Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and he will establish your plans.” This verse is a powerful reminder that when we put our trust in God and submit our plans to Him, He can transform our lives in ways that we could never imagine. In this blog post and my most recent podcast episode #217 Trusting GOD’s Plan For Your Business, we’ll explore what it means to commit to God, how He establishes our plans, and how He guides us towards His purpose for our lives.
What Does it Mean to Commit to God?
To commit to God means to trust Him with every aspect of our lives, including our plans and aspirations. It means surrendering our desires and ambitions to Him and allowing Him to work through us to accomplish His will. We are simply a vessel awaiting direction. When we commit to God, we acknowledge that He is the source of all wisdom and strength, and that apart from Him, we can do nothing. Can I get an AMEN!
Committing to God requires humility, obedience, and a willingness to let go of our own desires and agendas. It means acknowledging that God’s ways are higher than ours, and that His plans for us are always for our good. When we commit to God, we place our faith and trust in Him, knowing that He will guide us towards His purpose for our lives.
How Does God Establish Our Plans?
When we commit our plans to God, He can establish them in a variety of ways. Here are a few examples:
- Providing Opportunities
God may provide us with the resources and opportunities that we need to fulfill our plans. He may bring people into our lives who can help us, provide funding, or create unexpected circumstances that lead us in the direction He wants us to go. He provides us with wisdom and knowledge we didn’t have before. I can testify to this! When we trust in God, we can be confident that He will provide everything we need to accomplish His will.
- Redirecting Us if Necessary
Sometimes, God may close doors or redirect our plans if they are not aligned with His purpose for us. This can be difficult to accept, especially if we have invested a lot of time and effort into our plans. However, we can trust that God’s plan is always for our good, even if it doesn’t align with our own desires.
If God redirects our plans, it may be because He has something better in store for us, or because He is protecting us from something that we can’t see. In these situations, it’s important to trust in God’s wisdom and remain open to His leading.
- Speaking to Us Through Prayer and Other Means
God may speak to us through prayer, the Bible, or other people to guide us in the right direction. When we commit to God, we need to be open to hearing His voice and be willing to follow His leading. This may involve stepping out of our comfort zone or taking risks that we wouldn’t normally take. This is exactly what I shared on my latest podcast episode Trusting GOD’s Plan For Your Business | Episode 217 on stepping out in faith and obedience.
It’s important to seek God’s guidance regularly through prayer and Bible study. When we spend time in His presence, we can develop a deeper understanding of His will for our lives and the plans He has for us.
- Developing Our Character and Faith
God may also work through our character and faith to prepare us for His purpose. This may involve developing qualities such as patience, perseverance, and humility, which are essential for fulfilling His plan for our lives.
When we face challenges and obstacles, God may use these experiences to refine us and strengthen our faith. He may also use our struggles to help us grow in empathy and compassion for others who are going through similar difficulties.

How Does God Guide Us Towards His Purpose?
When we commit to God, He guides us towards His purpose for our lives in several ways. Here are a few examples:
- Through His Word
The Bible is God’s primary way of revealing His will and purpose for our lives. When we spend time reading and studying the Bible, we can gain a deeper understanding of who God is and what He wants for us. The Bible provides guidance and wisdom for every aspect of our lives, from relationships and finances to our career and purpose.
- Through the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence within us, and He guides us in our daily lives. When we pray and seek God’s will, the Holy Spirit can speak to us and give us direction. He can also give us peace and assurance when we are unsure of what to do.
- Through Other Believers
God can also use other believers to guide us towards His purpose. When we are part of a church community, we can receive encouragement, support, and guidance from other Christians who are also seeking God’s will. We can learn from their experiences and wisdom, and they can provide accountability and prayer support as we pursue God’s purpose for our lives.
- Through Our Circumstances
God can also use our circumstances to guide us towards His purpose. Sometimes, He may allow us to go through difficult or challenging situations to refine us and prepare us for His plan. Other times, He may provide us with opportunities and blessings that align with His purpose for our lives.
When we commit to God and seek His guidance, He can use every aspect of our lives to lead us towards His purpose.
Committing to God is a powerful act of surrender that can transform our lives in countless ways. When we trust in God and submit our plans to Him, He can establish our paths and guide us towards His purpose for our lives. This requires humility, obedience, and a willingness to let go of our own desires and agendas.
God can establish our plans in a variety of ways, from providing opportunities to redirecting if necessary. He can also guide us towards His purpose through His Word, the Holy Spirit, other believers, and our circumstances. Need rediscovery time of opportunities?
